Yahoo Skinny Dips in the Web 2.0 Pool
Yahoo is into it big time. There's an article in last months Business 2.0 about the Flickerization of Yahoo. A lot of their purchases go unreported. They just bought some startup that was growing by word of mouth but people in the industry may not of heard of called WebJay. It's a way for people to list their song playlists.
What is WebJay? Why were they so important that Yahoo needed to purchase it?
The Flickrization of Yahoo!
How the founders of a hot young photo-sharing site are helping to change the focus of the search engine giant--and turning its fight with Google into a battle of man vs. machine.
Yahoo is taking this social web/community thing seriously, and I think we should too. User generated content that becomes habit forming for the users, that integrates into the way they manage their lives may be one of the directions we will be going more and more of in the future.
It's one thing when Journos and other cheerleaders are promoting something. It's another when a giant like Yahoo dives in this enthusiastically, putting Web 2.0 people in management decision making positions. One must really stop and consider the possibilities.
